AAFHA Archives: 2017 |
From the Irish Pub in Atlantic City, NJ. The Army Air Forces Historical Association joined us for dinner Friday night. Yesterday they did a presentation for the Civil Air Patrol to celebrate the 75th Anniversary of the 1st flight out of Bader Field. We were honored by your visit.
For over 20 years, AAFHA has been remembering and honoring the history of WWII aviation. We paticipate in public forums and airshows like MAAM WWII Weekend in Reading PA, Open House Airshows at McGuire AFB, and our "Hometown" Airshow at the Greenwood Lake Airport. We march in the Riveredge July 4th Parade and the SGt. John Basilone Parade in Raritan, NJ, and participate in local Pearl Harbor Commemorations. Our private member only events include our Annual Dinner Dance and Picatinny Luncheon. |
More recently the AAFHA Squadronaires WWII Revue have been performing for Veteran, seniors and historical societies at various venues throughout the Tri-state area. Here are some photo albums from our long and distinguished history! From the most recent to our ancient past, scroll down the history of the Army Air Forces Historical Society! Mr. Bolcar is a 100 years old WWII veteran who served in the U.S. Army Air Forces as a ball turret gunner on a B-24. He is as sharp as a tack. It was an honor to meet and speak with S/Sgt. Bolcar.

LIVING HISTORY DAYS AT NYHS Living History: WWII Weekend: Saturday, September 16th, 2017
" I can't thank you enough for putting together such a great program that truly kicked off an exciting and remarkably busy fall season of Living History for us! I sincerely hope you'll consider returning. The AAFHA made such a strong showing in comparison to some of our other outside Living History organizations. I really did not expect to meet a veteran of WWII that day! However pre-occupied by office work that day I was, know that you all made a lasting impression on me and--I'm sure--our visitors. Please pass along my gratitude to everyone who came out and say hello for me if you see them. "
Thank you again!
Sincerely,

Gilder Lehrman- NY Historical Society Living History Day: June 21, 2017
A Big thank you to Bill Darron, Pete Puccia, Taryn Seminara, Alyssa Martin and Paul Martin for representing AAFHA today at the Gilder Lehrman- NY Historical Society Living History Day. We spoke with about 40 middle school students and volunteer docents and were very well received. Bill and Peter carried the day with an overview of Army Air Forces order of battle, as well as a basic explanation of the Norden Bombsight and battle gear including several short films and powerpoint presentation.
Taryn, Alyssa and Paul presented a hands on show and tell with many homefront, war bonds, USO and ration items, leading a discussion on the importance of the Homefront on morale and ultimate Victory.
Best of all was the private tour of the Society and Institute's historical archives with an opportunity to view some "not-on-public -view" priceless pieces from their collection, including the Yankees, Dodgers, Giants ticket for the exhibition fundraiser for the Civil Defense Volunteer Office at Yankee Stadium on April 14, 1943.
